I got caught up with Revolution and Once Upon a Time tonight. I'm not impressed with these shows anymore and I doubt I will continuing watch past the season. I'm glad they finally explained the black out...spoiler after the jump
I really glad they finally explained how every battery powered think on Earth just went dead. It was caused by nanites, tiny virus like things that absorb electrical energy. They have two commands, 1) absorb energy and 2) reproduce. Somehow the reproduce part got messed up and they started reproducing like crazy and now they are EVERYWHERE just floating in the air and they are tiny, like viruses. Hmmm....maybe you should have added a critical limit kill switch to the nanites. Anyway, these nanites can be reprogrammed and, as we saw in tonight's episode, they can be used to turn people extra crispy. But Rachel and Aaron still need to make the trek to Colorado to flick the switch that will kill all the nanites in the world.
Lingering questions and observations:
What I still don't understand though, and maybe it's because of my strong science background, is how are they not absorbing the hearts ability to pump or the brains ability to send signals or muscles to contract or the electron chain involved in ATP production...so essentially every living thing's ability to live??? I don't understand how all the nanites turned off the power everywhere in the world at once. They were spread over Kabul, Afganastan. How did they spread so quickly to the US? How fast do those suckers reproduce?? Also why make your weapon so easily transported by the wind without having a radius of control on them? So many bad mistakes that even a kindergartener could see coming.
